Environments and Maternal Health Although unhealthy environments and environmental risks have become a hot topic, very little of the public discussion in Canada has considered either gender or maternity. The very biology of conception, pregnancy, birth and post-partum health varies with place and time, and with women’s individual and shared history.
NNEWH’s Environments and Maternal Health Workshop in March 2008 explored what part gender and environments play in healthy maternity, probing issues around getting pregnant and including staying pregnant, fetal development, birth and post-partum conditions. NNEWH’s current projects in this research area build on the deliberations and networking at the workshop. |
